"Come oooonnn, Hex, it'll be fun!" begged Riz, sitting on the edge of the cockpit.

"Don't do parties," said Hex, in her usual slump in her seat.

"Come on, just this once. It's a costume party and everything! You can hide in plain sight."

"Don't do parties."

"Not even a little? Not even in costume?"

"Riz."

"Alright, fine, I know, I know."

They sat in silence for a moment, before Riz continued, in a more sensitive tone.

"Of course I know. That's why I made you something."

Hex turned her head to look at her, but said nothing.

"I made youuu..."

Riz leaned back, groping for something she'd left on the floor.

"...this!" she said, swinging forward and presenting the object. "You can hook into it remotely, like a scout drone. That way, you can sit here, and you can leave at any point, or just turn off some of the sensors, or—"

"Riz."

"I just... I want to go with you," said Riz, energy suddenly gone.

"Riz. I'll go."

"Arrr! Ahoy, matey!"

Riz bounced up next to Lolly, who was standing indecisively by the drinks table.

"Oh hey Riz, I wasn't sure if you were coming," said Lolly, looking her up and down with a smile on her face. "Nice costume."

"Cheers, Lols," said Riz, beaming back. "Nice hat. I didn't realise witches were meant to look so fucking stunning." She paused for a moment, clearly enjoying the soundless flustered protestations, before saying, "I was a bit late 'cause I went to see Hex."

"Ah, I see," said Lolly, blushing smile fading briefly before recovering. "It's not her kind of event, I guess. Better to have fun without her than miss out and make her feel guilty."

"Nah, she's here too."

"Oh?" said Lolly, turning to look around the room.

"Thanks," said Riz, "I just didn't want Hex to miss out, but it also improves the costume a fuck ton."

"Are you going to be with us all night, Hex?"

"Ah, yeah," said Lolly, as Riz skipped away from her, smile fading. "See you later."
